Training Borehole at MRRD Compount

as proposed by David Banks, Norplan at the bridging workshop in February 2013

Proposed Location of Training Borehole, MRRD, Kabul

Proposed Location of Training Borehole, MRRD, Kabul Drilling We have been shown three possible drilling sites, which we have prioritised as follows: Priority 1. Adjacent to workshop compound at W of MRRD site. Open area, c. 24 x 11 m, with drain (to receive pumping test water) running along north side. Near to workshop boreholes, so may see some “signal” from pumping. Inside secure area. Easy access for vehicles. Priority 2. MRRD mosque area, just south of MRRD compound wall, but within secure perimeter. Grassed area in front of mosque. No obvious drainage. Close to MRRD main wells, so may see some “signal” from pumping. Inside secure area. Easy access for vehicles. Priority 3. “Alcove” in MRRD perimeter wall where notices are displayed. Outside secure compound and adjacent to public road. We need to confirm with MRRD the availability of these sites for drilling and the absence of pipes and tanks underneath site. Geophysics

We have identified two possible sites for surface geophysics, as follows:

Priority 1. As priority 2 for drilling.

Priority 2. Verge of main road outside MRRD compound, along line of trees. Outside secure perimeter. Danger from traffic. We need to confirm with MRRD the availability of these sites for geophysics and the absence of pipes and tanks underneath site.

Possible sites within MRRD compound

AGREED SITE FOR TRAINING BOREHOLE IN MRRD.

Agreed site for training borehole si Priority area 2. Approved by Director Ghulam Qader after Bridging Workshop

WELL HEAD CONSTRUCTION
ALTERNATIVES

Below are three possible arrangements for consideration when developing the training borehole. The system must be technically sound, presentable and suitable for training and test piumping demonstrations.

Wellhead if PVC casing is used.
Wellhead if steel casing is used
Wellhead (temporary) pump assembly
